We perform analysis of wear contaminants found in filters from oil wetted surfaces in the oil lubrication systems of engines. The residue obtained from flushing the oil filter is normally analysed using the SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope). The debris is placed in the SEM and the elemental components are determined by Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Where the OEM has developed and shared metal compositions they will be included in the reports as best match.
