De-bunkering Services
What is debunkering
De-bunkering is a process of offloading bunker fuel from the vessel. This occurs when the bunkers are deemed as unfit for use in the ship.
The shipping industry is challenged by the offloading of Heavy Sulphur Fuel Oil (HSFO) because of the regulations implemented by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2020.
High content of Sulphur oxide (SOx) can lead to acid rain, which can harm the environment, contribute to the acidification of the ocean, and endanger marine life. To prevent this invisible pollution, the IMO has limited SOx emission from the vessels. To reduce the pollution and protect the environment, IMO has implemented new regulations which control the emission from 3.5% to 0.50% m/m (mass by mass) in 2020. Use of HSFO is prohibited but replacement with fuel oil with Light Sulphur Fuel Oil (LSFO) is what we are able to offer.
