SINGAPORE – Global renewable energy growth is predicted to decrease in 2026 for the first time in five years, as electrical system capacity struggles to keep up with rising solar and wind power development. According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), new renewable energy capacity additions are expected to fall below 2025 projections, with China facing substantial grid restrictions and Australia and Japan’s transmission networks also under pressure. The delay emphasises the need for increased investment in power infrastructure to enable the global energy transition. Further grid development and renewable energy initiatives may boost demand for industrial maintenance and waste.
