Malaysian Shopping Malls Prepare for Expanded Recycling Requirements

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian retail malls are preparing for new recycling standards as the Ministry of Housing and Local Government promotes garbage separation and recycling methods. Since 2009, major retail malls such as 1 Utama and IPC have run recycling hubs, highlighting the increasing relevance of coordinated waste collection, tenant engagement, and recycling infrastructure. If implemented, the proposed rules may drive additional shopping malls to improve their waste management systems, potentially increasing demand for professional waste collection, recycling services, and environmental compliance, including the proper disposal of regulated waste.
