KUALA LUMPUR – According to an industry analysis, a significant legislative and commercial drive is underway in Malaysia’s palm oil sector to convert agricultural waste into high-value commercial feedstocks. Plantation groups and mill operators are rapidly monetising plentiful biomass byproducts, such as Empty Fruit Bunches (EFB), Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME), and discarded fibre residues, by transforming them into renewable bioenergy, industrial compost, and biobased goods. Driven by national circular economy directives and shifting global export dynamics, this strategic pivot allows plantation operators to diversify revenue streams beyond traditional oil yields, improve resource cycling efficiency, and lower baseline environmental footprints across domestic supply chains.
