
KLANG – Malaysia’s domestic maritime sector requires more than RM15 billion in capital expenditure to modernise local fleets and address critical tonnage deficits. The Malaysia Shipowners’ Association (MASA) stated that newly developed marine development funds will prioritise vessel retrofits, dual-fuel conversions, battery installations, and digital fuel-monitoring systems to comply with regional energy transition mandates. As domestic shipowners, coastal tankers, and offshore support vessels (OSVs) modernise their engines and move to low-emission operational norms, the demand for certified port receiving facilities and marine waste recovery grows quickly.
