JOHOR BAHRU – Transport Minister Anthony Loke has asked Malaysian port operators to accelerate their decarbonisation efforts in order to fulfil international environmental standards and increase their worldwide competitiveness. Loke cited the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) as an example, praising its use of 52 electric prime movers to replace diesel-powered trucks and cut carbon emissions. He also underlined the necessity of meeting Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards and supporting the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) net-zero emissions target by 2050. Malaysia is also looking into ways to position its ports as green bunkering hubs, helping the maritime industry move to cleaner fuels and more sustainable operations.
