KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia is estimated to need an extra nine gigawatts (GW) of gas-fired power generation capacity by 2030 to fulfil rising electricity demand from data centers and advanced industrial businesses. Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir stated that diminishing production from mature local gas fields may increase Malaysia’s dependency on imported liquefied natural gas (LNG), even as the country continues to build its renewable energy capabilities. The rising need for natural gas and electrical infrastructure may spur additional investment in power generation facilities, thereby boosting the demand for industrial maintenance, used lubricant collection, planned waste management, and environmental compliance services.
