Tan Chong Partners with Saike REPT to Explore Local EV Battery Manufacturing and Recycling Infrastructure

KUALA LUMPUR – Tan Chong Motor Holdings Bhd announced that its subsidiary, TQ Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China-based Saike REPT Power Battery System Co Ltd to explore the possibility of localising electric vehicle (EV) battery pack assembly in Malaysia. Aside from manufacturing, the strategic relationship focuses on cooperative feasibility studies for responsible waste management, end-of-life recycling, and second-life utilisation of wasted batteries. The initiative’s goal is to strengthen Malaysia’s automotive supply chain resilience, support sustainable e-mobility adoption, and address emerging environmental compliance requirements for hazardous industrial waste management throughout the region by establishing a localised battery assembly and recovery framework.
